Well a good answer to your question is to look up reference for straight on pregnancy shots. THe best way to learn is from reality.

The trick is to get the shape right, and/or to also use shadow for depth. It's similar to the problem of drawing an arm or leg in a foreshortened pose.

I usually don't do straight on shots because straight on shots of people tend to be boring anyway. ^^

I laud your attempt to spread your vast knowledge to the unwashed masses. I also thank you. I'll have to keep some of these things in mind next time I pick up a pencil.

I do have a suggestion for a future tutorial- how do you depict a pregnant woman from a straight-on view? I see it done poorly on a frequent basis: like a normal woman with a blob at the middle. It's just harder to depict that depth, I guess.

Wow, I'm doing my best to learn to sketch, knowing that most of my stuff will be seen by friends/family, and now I have advice telling me how to draw the thing that'll draw negative reactions from them...

Luckily, I can't do females yet ANYWAY (stupid women, having a slightly different muscle structure then the guys...), so won't have the urge to practice this for a while.

The surrealism of the first picture is my favorite part of this post.

A little note for the readers; once we've gotten a few of these art tutorials up, we'll be encouraging audience participation through challenges and contests, so start practicing now!
